So we got to Iowa last Wednesday night - uneventfully - it was nice to get here and get this week going. For those unaware we were going to be staying in Iowa until the 1st, and have a lot of boy and me time…time off from our roles as Momma and Daddy. Our anniversary is Thursday and we were PSYCHED about going to Kansas City together for the Onething Conference.
Then the wee one got SICK. Like 102 temperature sick. So I called the insurance company, got him over to Mercy West were they declared he had ANOTHER double ear infection.
*SIGH*
No biggy right? The wee one usually breezes through being sick, and we were hopeful that he’d get better and things could go as planned. But he didn’t get better as soon, or as quickly as we’d anticipated. He’s CLINGY, coughy this CROUPY yucky cough, and running a fever TO THIS DAY. He’s also FUSSY. Like bad. He’s waking up over and over at night, and my little punkin is just MISERABLE.
Okay, well we were just going to play everything by ear, and hope for the best. The boy and I had an awesome stay until Thursday so that we could still go out for a nice dinner planned as a back up.
Then yesterday we went to my Grandma’s in Laurens. They have three dogs there, two shitzus and a sheltie mix that’s my aunts. Grant LOVES dogs….or he did. After we opened presents, he was sitting in the middle of the floor with the sheltie. He was leaning over giving him kisses on the nose. One kiss was cute, two kisses even cuter, but the third the dog got pissed and bit him right on the face.
Mass pandemonium ensued, and everyone except me and the boy FREAKED out. We got him into the kitchen tried to clean him off, and assess. We decided to run him to the emergency room to be sure, and so Christmas Eve we’re off to Pokey’s county ER. The baby is fine, he didn’t even bite through, he just grabbed him on his upper lip. The little flap of skin under his nose got ripped a little, but it all in all was minor. We got some stronger antibiotics, and headed back to Laurens to comfort everyone. We assured my aunt it was no big deal, and she cried…A LOT. We felt bad for her too….that dog hasn’t ever bit anyone, and has been around TONS of kids. And she was just devastated. My uncle was gone at the time, but came back and promptly kicked the dog I heard. I’m not sure that was necessary, and I was glad I wasn’t there.
But since then the wee one is DONE. He was fussy ALL DAY LONG, and just wants to lay on me, and cries about everything. He’s normally such a happy kid, but I think three Christmases coupled with being sick and then getting bit was enough. Then this morning he ripped his toe open on my parents bedroom door, and almost drowned in the bath tub while I was peeing….two feet away. He’s also got a diaper rash that looks like the plague and makes him cry each time he’s got diarrhea which is often since he’s sick.
We are going home tomorrow needless to say. And I am estatic. I am taking the wee one to his doctor to double check everything, and the medicine. We’re completely gun shy of dogs right now, my sisters little Jack Russell stayed away from Grant the whole time we were here (my sister and Jer did that themselves, which I thought was so nice of them)
It’s sad because Christmas was fun. We spent a lot of time with the boy’s fam which wasn’t originally part of the plan, but due to weather we changed that. Then my family including Jer and Meg stayed at our house and it was SO MUCH FUN. Jer and I talked a lot, and I think I’m getting past the hurt and just moving towards the future. It feels good. And I was looking forward to boy time and God time….HOWEVER there is no way I’m leaving my baby sick and battered.
So I supposed I best go pack…but that’s the latest.
